Osasuna and Villarreal Play to a 2-2 Draw at El Sadar

Osasuna (7-5-10, 26 points) and Villarreal (13-3-5, 42 points) played to a 2-2 draw at El Sadar on Saturday afternoon. Villarreal opened the scoring from the penalty spot following a controversial decision, but Osasuna responded strongly to take a 2-1 lead into halftime thanks to goals from forwards VíctorMuñoz and Ante Budimir. Forward Gerard Moreno sealed his brace as he scored the equalizer in the second half to secure a share of the points.

Osasuna started the match at a fast pace and created several early chances but failed to score first. Villarreal took the lead in the 17th minute when Moreno converted a penalty awarded after midfielder Nicolas Pepe went down in the box following slight contact with defender Javi Galán. The referee pointed to the spot, and VAR did not intervene.

The hosts quickly took control of the match and equalized minutes later when Muñoz finished a free-kick delivery from midfielder Rubén García after drawing the foul himself with a strong run. Osasuna continued to dictate play with energy and intensity, although goalkeeper Sergio Herrera was forced into action to clear a Moreno header off the line.

Deep into first-half stoppage time, García led a counterattack and found midfielder Jon Moncayola, whose cross was met emphatically by Budimir to give Osasuna the lead before the break.

Both teams made changes at halftime, with defenders Alejandro Catena and Alfonso Pedraza replaced after picking up bookings. The second half began at a slower tempo, with Osasuna opting for a more controlled approach.

Villarreal leveled the match in the 70th minute when Moreno glanced a corner kick toward the far post, beating Herrera to make it 2-2. Osasuna looked to respond through substitutions and had a late chance in the 86th minute, but forward Raúl García’s header went straight into the hands of goalkeeper Junior Reis.

With five minutes of added time, Osasuna wasunable to create further opportunities, and the match ended in a draw.
